They are often abridged which is irritating I did enjoy a play recently on Radio 4 adapted by Wilkie Collins, which was very dark atmospheric and brilliantly played. There is a Scottish play set in Edinburgh on Radio 4, but it's been dragging on too long and tends to repeat itself tOo often to be worth sticking with it.

I'm a fan of radio plays aka radio drama. Not much new done here in the States, but at least one of the XM satelite radio channels has them, and I enjoy them when my wife is shopping, and I'm along for the ride, while she spends hours in stores. Your right, they're sometimes abridged, but that's not much different from the way movies tend to ruin boks.

Hmm in part I agree however, if LOTR had followed book exactly, it would have been 8hrs long.

I like radio plays. I don't know about other countries but i like the way bbc produces them. They are all stereo and you can hear people talking and you can imagine where they are, you can hear when they are moving to directions and much more. They sound really realistick. Does anyone like bbc7? Is a bbc stations dedicated to drama, comedy, thriler and much more. It's not available on fm but it's available on dab digital radio and on the web. www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7 and people can listen again one week's of programmes on the website. It's really good.
